7 ATS-Friendly Resume Tips That Get Banking Candidates Shortlisted

Large banks receive thousands of applications for every opening, and almost all of them use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to filter resumes. If your resume is not ATS-friendly, it may never reach a human recruiter — no matter how good you are.

1. Use a Clean, Single-Column Layout

Fancy tables, graphics and two-column designs confuse parsing software. Stick to a simple single-column format with clear section headings.

2. Mirror the Job Description Keywords

If the posting says "NRI relationship management" or "retail asset products", those exact phrases should appear in your resume (truthfully, of course).

3. Lead With Numbers

"Managed a portfolio of ₹18 crore across 220 HNI clients, growing book value 23% YoY" beats "responsible for portfolio management" every time.

4. Name Your Systems and Certifications

Finacle, Flexcube, Salesforce, NISM certifications, JAIIB — these are exactly the tokens ATS filters search for.

5. Keep It to Two Pages Maximum

One page for under five years of experience, two pages beyond that. Recruiters spend under 30 seconds on a first scan.

6. Use Standard Section Headings

"Work Experience", "Education", "Certifications", "Skills" — creative headings like "My Journey" can break automated parsing.

7. Save as PDF, Named Professionally

Use Firstname-Lastname-Role.pdf. Avoid images of text, and never submit a photographed or scanned resume.
